  • We’re letting go off Cleverley too?!

by Ducky on 1st September 2010

Ok, I simply don’t get it. Not only do we fail to get all the Midfielders including Sneijder, Ozil, Ireland, heck even Jack Rodwell ever linked with United in the last 2 months, but we then let out only promising hope for a Scholes’s replacement go out on a season-long loan. Season-long! It’s not even like he’s gone just for the weekend or something, a little hop down to visit the family. He’s gone for the friggin season, and now our cover for the position in case Scholesy gets injured (likely), suspended (likelier), gets arthritis (likeliest) is apparently Darron Gibson. Dear God, I shudder at the thought.

I must say, I do not head the United scouting team and did not discover Cleverley when he was a sprightly young lad of 14. I’ve seen him only in our pre-season games and then a lot more of his complitation videos over the last 8 hours as he joined United’s latest list of ‘Outs’ in that damned transfer list. Anyone who saw his goal against the MLS All-Stars will have a satisfactory smile on their face – the type you get when you take a dump so big that your pants fit better. Surrounded by three, admittedly not John-Terry-caliber defenders, our man hops around a couple of them, takes the ball over the third and sweetly finishes into the bottom right on the volley… the kind of finish Nani should’ve showed in the first half of our West Ham game. As opposed to that horrible into-orbit-lob that he tried.

This is a player who could’ve been sent out in those FA Cup/Carling Cup early round ties against Swansea or Plymouth or some such fixtures so that he can get out there and play it the United way. The boy seems extremely willing to bomb forward, and when he does, he does a pretty good job of ensuring the ball lands up in the back of the net. If he did that a couple of times in a United shirt in the early season games, he could’ve even got a run out during our ‘easy’ home games, though we don’t seem to get too many of those these days. Basically this entire paragraph boils down to one thing – We could have used him!

That seems to be that in the ‘market’ for us this season then. We have spent £25Million on two ‘future prospects’ and one ‘wait, why did we buy him exactly?’ At this rate, our entire squad strength will remain the 15-16 who set out for our last three games+Gibson+Anderson. This is as opposed to the roughly £50million-worth bench that Man City manages week in and week out. Someone is bound to get injured, or bound to lose their mojo or bound to take off their shirt and get a yellow which suspends them just in time for the Chelsea match (shudder again). And then we’re in deep shit.

The only good thing that can come out of all this, as well noted by BBC, is if Harry manages to bring van der Vaart to London, with his lovely missus in tow. She’s the Man City-type  shake-up that the WAGs table of English Football badly needs, now that Cheryl’s also gone splitsville with Cuntley. Hope the stuck-ups at the Premier League Transfers committee or whatever it is see the immense value add of this proposition…

There IS still value in the market

cudnt agree more with u … the centre midfield looks so depleted with the most creative player being a 35 year old who most definately wont be able to turn out for every game.

More than letting cleverely off its the lack of buying in that department which is affecting us.Along with the centre of defence it is the most injury prone area and we hardly have any cover. This for a team with champions league and premier league aspirations and the chance to finally kick liverpool off the f**kin perch we share with them right now.

the thing which bothers me is the erratic buying .. buying bebe wasnt a crime … but over strengthening an already overcrowded striking dept and overlooking the midfield doesnt feel rite.

I wud have actually demanded another defender in lieu of rio being crocked almost always these days and wes brown doin a hargo these days too and smalling not quite ready and tested.but the midfield situation looks dire.

All said an done … fergie is an intelligent man … hopefully he knws wat he’s doin.

I must admit that i am disappointed to see Cleverley go out on loan.. I’d much rather we sold off Carrick and kept Cleverley. I followed him at watford last season and he was their best player.. He scored around 10+ goals and was voted their player of the season… He’s an exciting young prospect and there is nothing more i cherish than a player coming through our youth system and making his mark.

With Carrick still in the team though, Cleverley’s chances are going to be limited this season. . So i think its a good move for him personally and for the club in the long term… He’ll definitely get games at Wigan and he’d be playing under a good manager who tried to play decent football…

well, I am disappointed not because he is leaving, but he could have learnt a lot just by training with Scholes and Giggs than play for Martinez.
Its not like we are short in mid-field, but once the injuries kick in . . .we are doomed. . .
Mid-field : giggs, scholes, fletcher, carrick, gibson, anderson, park
      Flanks: valencia, nani, obertan
Considering the frequency we have to play matches in PL, CL, Carling and FA; we are still short, but we can manage.

        WTF .. !! Van der Vaart to tottenham for 8 m£ . . . .. and we got bebe for 7m£ . . ?@#!? its fkin retarded . . .

    • bharat

just how many careers is real madrid goin to spoil .. its like whoever goes there depreciates in value … its a crap mentality … each managerial change brings about a complete overhaul in the squad .. what a useless way to run a club .. all f***kin mercenaries … an shitty will probably turn out like that too .. destroyin footy …

an dude dont forget that in 8 mill tot get him and we get to see the missus .. nw thats the kinda tranfer i like !!!

Manchester United: Ben Amos, Darren Fletcher, Tomasz Kuszczak, Darron Gibson, Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs, Wes Brown, Owen Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson, Park Ji-Sung, Jonathan Evans, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, Antonio Valencia, Gary Neville, Dimitar Berbatov, John O’Shea, Javier Hernandez, Nemanja Vidic, Michael Carrick, Michael Owen, Wayne Rooney. (United can also use Fabio, Rafael, Ritchie De Laet, Gabriel Obertan, Bebe, Chris Smalling, Federico Macheda).

Good to see Hargreaves is in there… his Arsenal-player-type injury behaviour will hopefully be done by January.

        • Off the effin perch – Venky

I’ve lost all hope on Hargo.. Even if he does return, he prolly wont be the same player again. Pity really… Such a special talent… His freekick against Arsenal to put a dagger in their title hopes springs to mind…. How we could do with a dead ball specialist like him now :(

          • Mechanic

yeahaa, on the same note. . .
nani is totally worthless for taking free-kicks. . . giggs might put one in occasionally , but i guess gibson is best choice for free kicks right now. . .( considering the beauty against MLS). . .
